| The
following tips should be applied at your own discretion.
Dating should be both safe and fun. Please read
these recommendations and use. |
| |
  |
Know
as much about the person you are meeting as possible.
At the least you should have
three pieces of concrete pieces of information about
the person you are meeting: |
| |
|
  |
Their
Full Name - a must!!! |
| |
|
  |
Land
line telephone number. |
| |
|
  |
Where
they work and what they do for a living |
| |
|
  |
Home
address |
| |
|
  |
A
person that knows them that can verify the information
is correct. |
| |
In
short if they will not give you their full name
and two of the above - DO NOT MEET THEM. |
| |
  |
Tell
someone close to you of your plans
Tell someone (friend and/or
family member) who you are meeting, their details
and what you are planning to do. Make sure that
they have a way of contacting you or you contacting
them. |
| |
  |
During
the day to early evening is best
Try
not to make your dates later than 8pm. During the
day and early evening have been found to be the
best and safest. |
| |
  |
Make
your own way there.
It
is safer to make your own way there. Do not get
picked up at your house or unit. Saves any difficult
situations that may arise if picked up from your
house or unit. |
| |
  |
A
public place is a safer place.
Meeting
in public places where there are other people keeps
you safer. Places like cafes, bars and restaurants. |
| |
  |
Do
not consume too much alcohol.
It
is easy to let one's guard down after a few drinks.
Keeping your alcohol consumption to a minimum for
your first dates is a good way to go. |
| |
  |
Keep
the conversation light and easy.
Given
this is the first time you are meeting them it is
best to stick to personal interests and/or hobbies,
travels, and fun things. Debating and personal dramas
are best avoided. |
| |
  |
Be
careful of the information you share.
Personal information such
as address's, phone numbers should not be disclosed
on your first date. |
| |
  |
Keep
the first date short.
Remember the first date is really an introduction
- suggested you keep it under 3 hours. If things
work out well then plan your next date and enjoy.
|
| |
  |
Make
your own way home.
It is better not to accept a lift home on your first
date. Get home on your own (taxi, train or bus)
or get collected. |
